| Coach's Corner |
| Thank you for volunteering to coach. You will truly find it to be a rewarding experience, although certainly not monetarily. Giving of your time can often be taken for granted and the EYS board recognizes your efforts. Our most successful coaches are the ones that get the other parents involved as well. |
| The most important things you can do as a coach: |
| |
Make sure the kids have a great time, with very positive reinforcement. This is not competitive soccer and wins and losses should not matter. Fun comes first. |
| |
Make sure the other team has fun too. Everyone likes to win, but there is always one team that does not. Winning games by huge margins (10-0, 15-1 for example) only makes for a good experience for one team, not both. There are ways of making your better players work on other skills than scoring, and ways to get some of your weaker players more opportunities to shine. |
| |
Tell your players to importance of showing up for practice and games. That is the only way they can improve on their skills. |
| |
Try to make sure your players all get similar playing time and play different positions. This is rec and their parents came out to watch them play, whether they are good players or not so good. |
| |
Get a parent to coordinate a snack schedule. It means a ton to the kids, especially U6, U8, and U10. |
| |
Let parents know that you will need a back up for when you cannot make games. |
| Schedule: |
| |
U6 – Kids should get to fields at 6:00, practice ½ hour, and then game begins at 6:30. |
| |
U8 - Kids should get to fields at 5:30, practice ½ hour, and then game begins at 6:00 or at 6:30 for 7:00 games. |
| |
U10 - Kids should get to fields at 5:30, practice ½ hour, and then game begins at 6:00 or at 6:30 for 7:00 games. |
| |
U13 – Because of earlier start time, if coach can get practice set up for 5:30, that is good. If not, do the best you can. |
| Weather: |
| |
If there are Severe Thunderstorm Warnings or other similar threats the games will not be played that evening. We will try to post to the website by 5:00 if we know the games are not to be played. Encourage your parents check the website www.eysoccer.org |
| |
The coaches can work together to see about rescheduling the games if they choose. |
| |
Games can be played in the rain, but best judgment needs to be used there as well. It is our intent to try to have a board member at the fields each evening that can help with that decision. |
| |
Make up games are up to the coaches to try to reschedule. It is not mandatory, but the kids only play 8 games until the season ending rec tournament. |
| Rec Tournament: |
| |
We would like to each team participate in the season ending rec tournament the weekend of August 21st-22nd. |
| |
They will play a minimum of 4 or 5 games that weekend and that will be when we ask all equipment to be turned in. Likely 3 games on Saturday and 2 on Sunday. It will give them an experience of what it is like to play traveling soccer if they choose to want to play MC United club soccer the following year. |
| |
If you cannot make it that weekend, try to groom an assistant to take the team that weekend. |
| Equipment: |
| |
Each team will be given 3 balls and discs/cones for practice and games. |
| |
First aid equipment, including ice, will be available at the concession stand. |
| |
It is very important that we get the equipment back at season end, as we spent much money to improve the quality of it. |
| |
All players should wear shin guards, soccer cleats are optional. |
